Discover Zlatibor’s mountain atmosphere and ride the famous Šargan Eight heritage railway through one of the Balkans’ most scenic rail routes. Expect pine forests, open landscapes, and nostalgic engineering charm.
A great option for families and travelers who enjoy classic scenic experiences.
Stopića Cave, Gostilje Waterfall, and Gold Gondola are closely positioned along the route across Zlatibor, showing you different aspects of mountain topography—underground limestone formations, surface water features, and aerial perspectives—without backtracking or wasted driving.
The 2.5-hour narrow-gauge train ride demonstrates the specific technical solution—loops and elevation changes forming a figure-eight pattern—that 1920s engineers devised to cross this particular mountain terrain, making the route itself an explanation.
You travel only with your chosen companions, allowing the pace to adjust naturally to your interests and energy level.
A multi-generation family restaurant where cuisine reflects regional ingredients and hospitality traditions rather than tourist menus.
After morning pickup from your Belgrade address, you travel toward western Serbia and Zlatibor Mountain. First stop is Stopića Cave, known for its large limestone tubs and interior waterfall — a clear introduction to the geology of the region. From there, continue to Sirogojno’s Old Village open-air museum, where preserved wooden households explain traditional mountain life and architecture. Next is Gostilje Waterfall, a 20-meter cascade set in forest surroundings, offering a short, refreshing walk.
Lunch is planned at Pećinar Restaurant, a multi-generation family establishment serving regional mountain cuisine in a relaxed setting. In the afternoon, ride the Gold Gondola to Tornik peak. The panoramic ascent over meadows and lake views helps you understand the scale of Zlatibor’s landscape. Arrival in Mokra Gora is in the early evening.
Overnight: Guesthouse Osmica 3★, Mokra Gora
The morning is relaxed before boarding the historic Sargan Eight train. The figure-eight railway climbs gradually through forested slopes, with several short scenic stops for views and photographs. The approximately two-and-a-half-hour ride offers insight into the engineering that once connected remote mountain communities. After returning to Mokra Gora, visit Mećavnik (Woodentown), created by filmmaker Emir Kusturica.
Its wooden streets and unusual street names reflect a blend of cinema, personal vision, and regional tradition. Lunch can be arranged at Restaurant Lotika within the complex. Return to Belgrade in the late afternoon.
Excursion to Višegrad in Bosnia – replace your post-train itinerary with a short excursion to the nearby Bosnian town of Višegrad, known for its historic Ottoman bridge over the Drina River.
Really enjoyed this nicely packaged, leisurely-paced tour of prominent sights in and around Zlatibor.
Vlada was the perfect host who had interesting snippets and backstories to share during different stages of the trip.
We had plenty to discuss on random topics ranging from football to politics and even lessons on Serbian language.
So long until we meet again…
We spent a few weeks in Serbia and we had a great time but the highlight of the trip was the excursion to Mokra Gora and Zlatibor. We can’t really decide whether we liked a vintage train ride -“Sargan’s Eight” more or the stunning nature of Zlatibor or the super tasty food !!! We learned so much about the culture and history of the place thanks to our amazing host Dobri. Highly recommended tour for people who want to learn, enjoy and indulge in Serbia’s best!
The only thing I regret about my Zlatibor tour with Miljan is that it didn’t last much longer. I had a terrific time seeing beautiful places and learning a lot about Serbia, its culture and people and will leave this country feeling enriched. As Miljan explained to me, he doesn’t see himself so much as a guide but as a host, and he proved it. While he showed me a little part of his country, I both felt like I was having great fun with an old friend, while still learning so much background info that books and the internet alone couldn’t provide.
I can’t imagine that you would find a more professional, knowledgeable person with a real passion for his country to show it to you … and it comes along with meeting a very kind, special person who’ll go out of his way to make you happy and your trip unforgettable. Hvala, MiljanE 🙂
Thanks to SPT I discovered all the secrets of Serbia. Professional, impeccable service, quality of service, knowledge of the terrain .. Thanks for the experience.

AMAZING TOUR !!!! It was a huge surprise all our experience in Serbia. The people, the food, the cities and history is so reach that we were every day excited to have more and more visits. This visit to the mountains was the cherry of all our experiences. Never expected so many colors, natural tourist sites, experiences with out limited, and again the beauty of the places, the kindness of the people, the food and the histories behind every visits. Our tour guide was very friendly, highly trained and knew how to answer every question we asked. The program that was prepared for us was full of surprises every day and I keep surprising us with new experiences next day. Serbia impressed us, we did not expect to have such a wonderful time! Prices are like living 20 years ago, all at very cheap and fordable prices, sometimes we think that had been and error because of the cheap prices asked.
