Over seven days, Serbia opens gradually: Belgrade’s layered history, monasteries hidden in green valleys, Ottoman fortresses, wine regions, mountain landscapes, and river towns. This itinerary gives you time to understand the country instead of only passing through it.
If you want the most complete national overview with even deeper regional coverage, consider our 10-day Serbia private tour.
This tour is fully private, allowing the pace and daily flow to adjust naturally without pressure from a group schedule.
From Tito’s mausoleum to St. Sava Church to Zemun’s riverfront, the capital becomes understandable as layered, not chaotic.
Zlatibor is not presented as scenery alone. Staying in a family-run guesthouse shows how rural Serbia actually functions today.
More than architecture, it explains how medieval Serbia positioned itself between East and West — a tension still visible in modern society.

After meeting your guide, travel north to Vojvodina and Fruška Gora. Visit the 16th century Krušedol Monastery, followed by Sremski Karlovci and Petrovaradin Fortress, where the long construction history reveals the region’s strategic importance. Lunch is hosted in a small wine cellar where the winemaker also cooks, pairing regional dishes with local wines.
Travel to Šumadija and Topola, where the modern Serbian state was born. Visit the Royal Mausoleum at Oplenac, burial place of the Karađorđević dynasty. The day continues through three wineries: the historic King’s Winery, Aleksandrović Winery, and a small family winery where lunch is paired by the owner, a sommelier and winemaker.
Fine Dinning at the Aleksandrović winery.
After breakfast overlooking vineyards, continue to Zlatibor Mountain. Ride the Gold Gondola, explore Stopića Cave, and visit the Old Village open-air museum in Sirogojno, where lunch reflects traditional mountain cuisine. A short walk leads to Gostilje Waterfall before reaching a family-run countryside guesthouse. Dinner is prepared in the household kitchen, reflecting generations of local tradition.
Morning brings a scenic drive to Mokra Gora and a ride on the Šargan Eight narrow-gauge railway. Crossing into Bosnia, visit Višegrad and its 16th century bridge over the Drina, made famous by Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić. A boat ride offers a different perspective before lunch featuring Bosnian-style ćevapi in a local tavern. Return to Mokra Gora and explore Drvengrad, Emir Kusturica’s ethno-village.
Travel across Golija Mountain to Studenica Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site and masterpiece of medieval Serbian architecture. Descend into the Ibar Valley, known as the Valley of Kings, and stop for lunch in a historic family tavern operating for over two centuries. Visit Žiča Monastery, once the coronation site of Serbian kings, before continuing to Belgrade.
Begin at Belgrade Fortress, overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube. Continue to Dedinje to visit the House of Flowers, Tito’s mausoleum, where your guide explains Yugoslavia’s legacy and contradictions. Visit St. Sava Church, the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans, before lunch featuring modern interpretations of Serbian cuisine. The afternoon is spent in Zemun, walking along the Danube or up to Gardoš Hill, followed by free time.

The End of the Tour
First of all, go to Serbia. It is beautiful, interesting, and welcoming. We definitely recommend you book with Serbian Private Tours. We had a fabulous 8 day trip. Everything was well planned, organized, but flexible. Our guide (Andrija) was everything you want – knowledgeable, easy to be with, went out of his way to be sure we were well taken care of, and a great driver which is important in Serbia. We are hoping to go back and will definitely use Serbian Private Tours again.
Me and my family spent memorable eight days in Serbia with Serbian private tours.
This is more about an amazing and authentic experience with Serbian private tours than a review.
Miljan (from Serbian private tours) is a synonym for prompt and detailed response. My first inquiry email was promptly responded by Miljan with all answers I needed about booking process, food, itinerary customization etc. Booking process was super smooth…
There is so much more to write, talk and share about our visit to Serbia and experiences we had with Serbian private tours, but I think this is not the medium to write full stories.
I highly recommend Serbian private tours, Miljan and Andrija. They love what they do and provide memorable and authentic experiences.
A Vacation to remember!
It is rare that I opt for a guided tour as opposed to exploring it yourself; in my opinion, I consider it to be a better option to do it myself instead of someone showing me around, until this time though. I opted for Serbian tours for an 8-day getaway to Serbia and it was nothing short of perfect. When I reached out to Serbian Private tours ( Miljian ) he got our requirement to the T and planned an itinerary that suited my family. This was important because I was traveling with a 10-month-old on her first vacation.
Andrija ( Andrew) our travel liaison was extremely friendly and so damn knowledgeable, that we got more than we bargained for. his historical titbits and facts gave us such an insight into the history of the place. He made sure our vacation was as enjoyable as it could possibly be, and ensured we take back a little bit of Serbia with us.
Thank you for a memorable Vacay! Definitely recommend Serbian Private Tours, even if you intend to plan it yourself.
I recently completed a private 8-day tour throughout Serbia and I would count this trip amongst my all time favourite experiences travelling abroad. Even before I arrived in Belgrade, owner Miljan was ALWAYS immediately responsive to all my enquiries and he put together an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to all my preferences/interests. And I was incredibly fortunate to have Dejan as my personal guide/driver. From the moment he met me at the airport, I knew that I, a single female traveller, was in good/safe hands. Apart from his expert /careful driving, he treated me more like a new friend than a guide. He accommodated all of my requests and we simply HAD FUN. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Serbia and its history. Our conversations were always informative and interesting. Overall, I would very highly recommend this trip. There is so much diversity; beautiful mountains, vibrant culture, monasteries and vineyards (we visited some remarkable small wineries in beautiful settings). Another highlight was the food. We dined at wonderful local restaurants that were expertly selected. As well, given Dejan’s translation, I was able to meet many locals who welcomed me warmly. So many wonderful memories of Serbia. I had absolutely NO complaints about this tour. And the owner even made a point of meeting me for lunch one day during the visit to ensure that everything was going well. Thank you Serbian Private Tours !!
I already want to go back. I did a multi-day (8 day) tour. When scheduling the tour, Miljan suggested adding two single day tours to the seven day tour to fit the length of my trip. These were the Monasteries Manasija and Ravanica as well as the Pearls of Hungarian Succession. Both were excellent additions and well worth doing. I don’t regret a single moment of the entire experience.
My tour guide was Andrija. He is very friendly and always professional. His knowledge of everything we did and saw is impressive. He taught me a great amount of Serbian history and culture. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
The food was wonderful. I never had a bad meal the entire trip. Every day we ate something different and new. Every day I was stuffed. The restaurants we went to were local and authentic. None of it was part of a chain or tourist trap which I really appreciate.
This company clearly has a good reputation in their community. We were warmly welcomed at almost every place we went to, with staff and owners speaking with us more like friends than customers. It really made a big difference.
Overall, I would always recommend Miljan, Andrija and the rest of the Serbian Private Tours team for anyone, or group, going to Serbia. I’ve been on other trips, to other places of the world, and this was certainly the best. From how friendly and kind the Serbian people are to the great food, rich history and beautiful country. You will not be disappointed with booking a trip through this company.
