This Serbia and Bosnia tour package begins where the Sava and Danube meet beneath Belgrade Fortress and unfolds toward the stone bridge in Višegrad and the narrow streets of Sarajevo’s old bazaar. You’ll stand above the Drina canyon at Banjska Stena, hear how Yugoslavia is remembered differently in Belgrade and Sarajevo, and notice the shift from Austro-Hungarian façades to Ottoman courtyards. By the time you reach Mostar’s bridge at sunset, the region’s complexity feels less abstract — and more human.
If you would like to explore the Balkans more extensively, consider our Western Balkans Private Tour, a multi-country journey across the region.
The itinerary is designed to gradually introduce historical, cultural, and regional contrasts, helping the story of the Balkans unfold naturally.
Your guide explains how places connect to everyday life and recent history, helping unfamiliar locations feel understandable rather than complex.
Urban centers, small towns, and national parks are combined to avoid repetition and create breathing space between culturally dense stops.
Traveling privately allows the route, timing, and daily rhythm to stay aligned with your comfort, rather than a fixed group schedule.

After meeting #YourSerbiaHost at the airport, station, or agreed location, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Depending on arrival time, the day unfolds with a relaxed introduction to Belgrade. You’ll begin at Belgrade Fortress, where the Sava and Danube rivers meet, offering a first sense of the city’s strategic importance. The route continues to Dedinje, including a visit to the House of Flowers, Tito’s final resting place, providing context for Yugoslavia’s complex legacy. The day concludes at the Saint Sava Church, an important symbol of Serbian identity. Evening at leisure, with local recommendations provided.
The day is dedicated to Vojvodina, Serbia’s northern province. You’ll visit the 16th-century Krušedol Monastery, followed by Sremski Karlovci, a town shaped by its Habsburg past. At Petrovaradin Fortress, you’ll learn why its construction took nearly a century.
Lunch is an experience in itself — hosted in a small family-run wine cellar, where traditional dishes are prepared by the winemaker and paired with local wines. The afternoon is spent walking through Novi Sad’s historic center before returning to Belgrade.
Leaving Belgrade, the route leads toward western Serbia. A stop in Bajina Bašta introduces the famous Drina River House, followed by a pause at the Vrelo River, known for its symbolic 365-meter length. On Tara Mountain, you’ll walk through ancient forest landscapes and reach Banjska Stena viewpoint, overlooking Lake Perućac. After sightseeing, you’ll stop at a mountain tavern on Tara to try delicious local dishes. The day ends in Mokra Gora, where you settle into Drvengrad, Emir Kusturica’s distinctive wooden village.
The morning begins with a scenic ride on the Šargan Eight narrow-gauge railway, one of the region’s most memorable rail journeys. After crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina, you arrive in Višegrad to visit the 16th-century Drina River Bridge, a UNESCO site immortalized by Ivo Andrić. A boat ride offers a different perspective on the bridge and town.
Lunch features Bosnian-style ćevapi at a local tavern before continuing through the Drina valley and across the Romanija highlands. Arrival in Sarajevo is scheduled for late afternoon.
The day focuses on Sarajevo’s complex past and present. A walking tour through Baščaršija traces the city’s Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav, and modern periods. You’ll then visit the Tunnel of Hope Museum, learning how the city functioned during the 1990s siege.
Later, the route climbs to Trebević Mountain, stopping at the abandoned Olympic bobsleigh track from the 1984 Winter Games, with views over the city. Lunch is taken at a local restaurant, with the evening free.
Heading south, the landscape shifts toward Herzegovina. In Konjic, you’ll walk along the Ottoman-era stone bridge and enjoy coffee by the Neretva River. Jablanica follows, where the remains of the WWII railway bridge illustrate a key partisan moment.
In Mostar, you’ll explore the Old Town and cross the UNESCO-listed Old Bridge, hearing stories that explain its symbolism beyond architecture. The day concludes in Blagaj, where lunch is served beside the Buna River spring, known for its fresh trout, before returning to Sarajevo.
A private transfer is provided to the airport or train/bus station. Depending on your schedule, time may allow for independent exploration of Sarajevo or additional activities arranged on request.
The End of the Tour
Serbian Private Tours (Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina) in Seven Days. This tour was truly amazing. From the moment we had initial informal questions about the tour, when we booked the tour, when we arrived, until we finished the tour and dropped us back at the airport, everything was well-organized and ran smoothly. The tour owners/organizers, Miljan and Tamara, are really helpful and responsive. Our guide, Andrew, was fantastic – incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of each city we visited, and always happy to answer our questions; always on time, with a very clean and nice comfortable car, enthusiastic to accompany us during the private tour and ready with alternative solutions if we have difficulties on the trip as we are elderly couple. He even compiled and sent us very nice pictures of us that he took during our trip. The accommodations were excellent. The food was delicious. We were taken to restaurants to eat local food, which was very delicious. We particularly enjoyed the traditional homemade dishes prepared by a very nice gentleman and his wife on the way to Novi Sad and the wine tasting experience. The itinerary was well-paced, allowing us to see a lot without feeling rushed and bored. We highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the best Serbian Private Tour, which includes Bosnia-Herzergovina. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to explore your beautiful country. Warmest regards from us in Canada. Wit & Mila

The trip, its planning, the places, the food, the people, the rides, the drives, the treks… what not! Miljan and his teammates, Andrew and Stephan were real gems! They did everything possible to make our trip so sweet, memorable and unforgettable. Cant believe how fast the eight days flew past by.. If anyone reading this are planning a trip to the Balkans, just drop a word to Miljan and the rest he will take care.. Dont even need to think twice.. Hearty thanks to Serbian Private Tours for making our holidays picture perfect…Lot of regards, love and all the very best to you all.
My weeklong private tour of Bosnia/Serbia with Serbian Private Tours was fantastic. My only serious regret was that it could not have been longer — 10 days or two weeks would have been much better, given the quality of the guides, the itinerary, the thoughtful organization. I have traveled to more than 100 countries on six continents and taken many private tours; this was among the best.
They are experts of private tours. We booked 8-day tours of Serbia and Bosnia. They seem to have some partners throughout Balgan countries so that they can provide multiple-country tours. In Serbia, our guide Andrija was informative and thoughtful. We really enjoyed the awesome trip with him. Our Bosnian guide Safet was also very nice. Though the heritages are far from Sarajevo, he managed to make the long way driving comfortable and interesting.
Polite, sympathetic and knowledgeable: ingredients for an unforgettable trip. Thanks Mr. Miljan and Serbian Private.
