In Kostolac open mine, near boundary with Viminacium archaeological park, skeletons of woolly mammoths were found middle of last year. Fossils of this species of mammoth were found in various places in Europe, mostly in Russia, but what is unusual in this discovery, is that the entire cemetery of these animals was found and that skeletons were well preserved.

Shortly after the discovery of mammoth bones, a few hundred meters away a Roman necropolis was discovered in whose graves golden items like beads, coins have been found. Apart from treasures that were discovered, also remains of lime were found, which are supposed to be used as a disinfectant for the plague that was raging at the time of Marcus Aurelius in Viminacium.
