The day begins with a drive out of Belgrade, but it quickly shifts once you’re seated at a tasting table in Vlaški Do, where Morava is poured and the first reactions around the group start to differ. In Topola, you step into a cool underground cellar built for the royal family, where rows of bottles from another era change the tone of the visit. At the final winery, glasses are filled again, but now the conversations come easier — comparing impressions, recognizing styles, connecting what you’ve seen. By the end, what started as three separate visits begins to come together into a clearer picture of the wine region.
If you prefer a more personal setting, you can explore our private alternative — the Royal Footprints Wine Tour.
This is not repetition of similar tastings. Each stop represents a different moment — young and ambitious, royal production, and modern commercial success — which helps you understand why Serbian wine looks the way it does today.
Morava and Prokupac are still relatively rare even within Serbia. Trying them on-site, where they are explained in context, makes the experience more than just tasting unfamiliar labels.
The group format lowers the cost, but remains small enough that visits don’t turn into waiting lines or fragmented explanations.
The King’s Winery is not presented as a museum piece, but as a working reminder of how wine production once supported state identity. Walking through it changes how you interpret what comes later.

The day begins in the village of Vlaški Do with a visit to Despotika winery. This younger producer focuses on indigenous Serbian varieties, including Morava (white) and Prokupac (red). As only a small number of wineries work with Morava, this stop provides a clear introduction to local grape identity, along with a broader tasting of their range.
From Vlaški Do, the route continues to Topola, the center of the Šumadija wine region. Here, you visit the historic King’s Winery, originally developed by the Karađorđević royal family. The preserved underground cellar and archive — with bottles dating back to the 1930s — provide context on how wine production once functioned at a state level. Tastings focus on current wines, not archival bottles.
The final winery represents the modern phase of Serbian winemaking. Aleksandrović combines contemporary production with continuity of earlier traditions, particularly through their Trijumf label. During the visit, you’ll taste a selection of their wines while learning how this style connects back to the royal vineyards seen earlier in the day.
After the tastings, lunch is planned at a local restaurant in Topola. The meal is à la carte and not included in the tour price. The restaurant offers a good selection of regional dishes along with Šumadija wines, providing a natural continuation of the wine experience.
After lunch, the tour concludes with a return transfer to the center of Belgrade.

Our tourhost Andrija was professional, knowledgeable and fun to spend a day with. We visited and enjoyed Serbian wine while getting tours of each winery and learning about the history and artistic craft of each wine. The winemasters are proud of their product and enjoy sharing with guests. We also visited the Royal Winery along with its informative museum. This tour was spectacular in many ways. From learning about the rich history of Serbia snd its proud culture to seeing the breathtaking countryside. We will be booking another tour this week. Serbia is a wonderful country with warm welcoming people. Serbian Private Tours and their staff are wonderful ambassadors of this majestic country.
