Belgrade is becoming an attractive destination for many travelers all over the year, especially for the New Year and Christmas holidays. Many visitors say that spending the New Year’s Eve in the Serbian capital is the most amusing thing to do, no matter if they welcome the New Year on the square, in some restaurant or on a floating river club, listening to brass bands, folk or pop music.
If you plan to spend holidays in Belgrade you really shouldn’t oversleep the event called “Street of Open Heart”, which is held in Svetogorska Street every year on January 1 for almost forty years now.
“Street of Open Heart” was created spontaneously in the bistro “Srpska kafana” when the actors of the neighboring theatre “Atelje212” served guests instead of the waiters. This traditional event has kept its humanitarian character even now when carnival atmosphere prevails. From noon until late afternoon you can enjoy various theatrical and musical programs that bring together a number of popular actors and singers. After an amusing walk you can begin with preparations for a rerun of the craziest night 😉
